Farm Hands
Our Farm Hands program is for high school youth and focuses on providing BIPOC youth mentorship, leadership skills, farming and gardening education. Farm Hands programming is February-May on Saturday mornings, 9 am-1pm.
Youth participate in meditation, lessons in traditional farming practices, gardening and farming tasks, and weekly harvests.
Our goals are to cultivate youth’s connection to the natural world, nourish their passions, and empower them to advocate for a sustainable future for themselves and their communities as we seed our way toward food sovereignty. We will be implementing this on our new farm in the Youth Learning Garden.
Our Farm Hands Skills Checklist allows participants to learn skills through a "See One, Do One, Teach One" approach that are rooted in four categories—Prep, Plant, Maintain, and Harvest. This checklist helps assess what the youth have learned and how confident they are in these skills. This checklist encourages youth to engage communally with their peers and educators, allowing them to bloom into the leaders they are.
Over the course of the 2025 Farm Hands program, we sent home a total of $7,271.76 worthof produce to our participants at no cost to them. On average, each participant received a bag of produce worth $19.76 every Saturday. This totals to $454.49 of savings for the average participant over the course of our 23 weeks of programming.
